Nose – A bit of an off-note on the nose – still has that vanilla, cacao, smoky peatiness of the 8 year old. Apple, raisin, light nuttiness, a light sherry rancio note, earthiness, some candy notes, lemon, a slight off barnyard note as well. Reasonably complex, but the off-note takes away from the nose.
Palate – Vanilla, with some smoke, pear, and raisin…lightly off as found on the nose. Slightly bitter. Lightly sweet – just about right to balance out this whisky. There’s also some chilli pepper.
Finish – Smoky, fruity (apple/pear), creamy, caramel, pear, guava, slight nuttiness, light oak, and some more of that saffron. Lightly dry, with some white pepper playing in as well. The feel of the finish is quite good.

Blended from a small number of carefully selected casks from the Highlands of Scotland and inspired by the distillery’s unique location, Shetland Reel introduce their newest blended malt whisky. Unlike previous releases, this special edition is bottled at 40%. Each of the malt whiskies used in this edition are at least 5 or 6 years old. The fresh sherry and bourbon casks each have influenced this whisky, with caramel, buttery notes and dried fruits coming through, none of which dominate the flavour. One the nose, this batch has notes of boiled fruit sweets, think pineapple cubes. The palate also has flavours of toffee, fruit sweets and black pepper, leading to a “long, sweet finish with some pepper.”

Fumare (Latin from smoky) was the first ever peated distillery bottling from Speyside Distillers, produced from peated barley which the distillery only used for a small amount of time each year. 100% matured in bourbon barrels, & bottled at 57.5% non chill-filtered and with no added colouring. A limited release of 1500 individually numbered bottles. Light gold appearance, with a subtle nose. The delicate character of the spirit is evident, though it’s very clear that this is a peated whisky. The smoke slowly builds in intensity, but with minimal medicinal notes, and increased sweetness. The addition of a few drops of water increase the complexity, and enhance the sweetness & vanilla notes that combine so well with the long, smoky finish.

Limited release of 1500 individually numbered bottles. Pale gold / white wine appearance. A light nose, with an initial clean and fruity notes. All very delicate, with little to indicate the higher strength.
Initial flavours are of vanilla & cream soda, with the higher strength bringing in some bolder fruit flavours with a hint of white pepper to finish.
