CAT & Genny - Cable Avoidance Tool and Signal Generator


Our Standard Cable Avoidance Training Course teaches candidates to use the Cable Avoidance Tool in an accurate and safe manner. This is achieved by both theory and practical sessions lasting around 4 hours.

All course materials are provided along with sufficient equipment for practical training. The course content covers the potential costs and dangers of cable strikes, an overview of cable avoidance equipment, the various modes, limitations and location techniques of the locator tools, along with an overview of depth locators and location accessories such as Sondes.

Additional areas that are highly informative cover the need for calibration, the types of undergournd services and their respective dangers, an overview of HSG 47 safe systems of work plus plans and search patterns.

Practical instruction is included to cover areas such as the correct method for locating and finding the direction of services, using signal generators along with the locator in various modes, use of signal clamps, injectors and sondes, along with sweep and depth techniques.

Course dates (takes place in Livingston): 9th Jan, 13th Feb, 13th Mar, 10th Apr, 8th May, 12th Jun,10th Jul, 14th Aug, 11th Sep, 9th Oct, 13th Nov and 11th Dec.
