It was while enjoying music and possibly a little too much gin that the conversation began…..Nigel and Beverley with a background in the drinks industry, Jamie with a background in the music industry and his partner Tanya -each with an interest in both fields, so why not combine the two?……music and gin?……..and so with a little more music and a little more gin The Gael Signature Scottish Gin story began…..
Our Inspiration ‘The Gael’ is a Scottish fiddle tune which was originally written by Dougie MacLean as a commission for The Loch Ness Visitor Centre. It subsequently featured in the soundtrack for the movie The Last Of The Mohicans and is played by pipe bands and fiddlers the world over. It carries a special part in all our lives (Dougie is Jamie’s dad) and it seemed the natural musical choice to incorporate in our gin.
For our signature gin our aim was ‘Scottish’. Using Malted Barley we distil in a bespoke hybrid still (copper pot linked to copper column) five times to achieve a high quality base spirit. Our botanicals including Scottish Heather are added to the base spirit by a combination of compounding and macerating and they blend to give the unique smoothness, flavour and notes. The result is a smooth gin with a citrus/heather aroma followed by a subtle juniper/slightly spicy flavour and a warm finish.

The Gauldrons Campbeltown Malt Scotch Whisky tells the story of the eponymous dark, stormy coves on Campbeltown’s west shores, and literally means “Bay of Storms”. As you step onto The Gauldrons’ fine, clean sand, you also step back in time. Over yonder is where a spider building his web with great patience but great difficulty inspired King Robert the Bruce to try, try and try again, having been defeated by his enemies. All around, you can sense the ghosts of the long lost distilleries that once proudly proclaimed Campbeltown Scotland’s Whisky capital. The Gauldrons is a marriage of the finest Campbeltown Malts, bottled in very small batches at 46.2% ABV, and proudly without colouring or chill-filtration. The complex nose reveals honeycomb with brown sugar, sea salt and a late hint of subtle spices. The palate is mouth coating and sweet with a peppery warmth developing to a beachy and maritime character. The finish brings vanilla and oak with puffs of smoke and biscuity sweetness.

This 30 year old Tomintoul Single Malt whisky has been specially selected by Robert Fleming as the second bottling to commemorate his 30th year as the custodian of Tomintoul Distillery. A unique and full bodied single malt, it has a depth and richness of flavour that has developed over years of maturation in the fresh, pure air of the Cairngorm Mountains. This specially selected single malt spent the first twenty nine years maturing in American Bourbon casks being for being finished in a hand selected antique Pedro Ximenez Sherry butt for its final year. This double cask maturation gives the whisky a perfect balance of vanilla sweetness and delicate oak, beautifully complimented with a host of dried fruit and sweet spices, creating a perfect harmony. Aromas of sweet raisins, ripe plums and dates followed by a mellow background of vanilla, cocoa powder and a delicate oak spiciness.
