The story behind the rum: Rum is aged in casks to impart flavour into the wood in preparation for the final stages of malt whisky maturation. After initial use, this spirit is often sold on or even disposed of. An undiscovered treasure which has now been repurposed to form the base of Discarded’s next fruity-forward spirit. The additional flavour profile comes from an unlikely source, banana peel. As an extract, banana peel provides a fresh toffee note with a fruity balance that perfectly complements the complexity of the base rum. Aged-rum base is blended together with Discarded’s banana peel extract to produce the award-winning Discarded Banana Peel Rum. Aromas of warm banana bread and treacle, with notes of dried fruit, toasted cinnamon and rich butterscotch. Rich flavours of banoffee pie and sticky toffee pudding, with deep fruity flavours of milk chocolate raisins and a crystallized ginger finish.

Aged for 7 years minimum in white oak ex-whisky barrels, Eminente Reserva possesses the aesthetics of a traditional Cuban light rum but with the complexity and depth of a very old one. Eminente Reserva is at once intense and delicate on the nose. The initial aroma of freshly roasted coffee gives way to softer notes of dulce de leche, toasted almond and cocoa. Full-bodied and incredibly deep, the palate is rich with vanilla and smoky notes, coffee and raspadura, which is the taste of unrefined cane sugar. Spicy notes of ginger and Sichuan pepper with a slight taste of prune in the background. Unsurprisingly, this is a long finish, fresh and creamy with notes of chocolate and a hint of smoke.
